When & Where Certified: Took SUCI’s Fall 1980 OWD Course out of Woburn Collegiate Institute & Centennial Pool and got certified in Skeleton Lake in the Spring of 1981, more than 4 decades ago (?!).
Favourite Dive: Whatever dive I happen to be doing. Seriously though, one of my all-time favourite dives is the Superman Dive in Lower Lake Huron, where it drains into the St. Clair River…hundreds of 2-3-metre long sturgeon, thousands of curious pickerel, fabulous historic shipwrecks, and great topside places in the Village of Point Edward to check out and just enjoy life in.
Current SUCI roles: Organizes SUCI’s bi-annual Outreach (Discover Scuba Diving) Program and SUCI’s annual AOWD Course. Organizes SUCI’s TPASC Pool Nights. Dive Masters several of SUCI’s amazing Shore and Charter Dives. Is SUCI’s resident Eventbrite “go-to” person, and is a senior member of SUCI’s Instructor Team.
Lifetime Dives: Somewhere between 5,000 and 6,000 dives, divided somewhat evenly between recreational, instructional, and maritime archaeological.
Favourite avant-et-après-diving refuelling and rehydrating substances: Ice cream, gelato, & ice-cold, crisp, sparkling apple cider
Pet Peeve: Littering. You will often find Raimund picking up all the litter on a dive site, consistent with his belief that we should all try to leave every place we visit in better shape than we find it
